| My vet has done this. It’s just a mistake— I mean, I’ve accidentally trimmed DD’s nail too close and felt terrible. |
| If the groomer wasn't apologetic, I would find someone else. I don't like the comment that this is "normal". I have two dogs and they are groomed every six weeks and we have never had this issue. |
If there was no blood, would you even know? Do you supervise the entire time. I’ve hit the quick before and it Bleeds very easily. Doesn’t stop easily until you put syptic powder on it. That’s why people are saying it’s NBD. |
+1 My family had a dog when I was a child, it's claws were never trimmed. |

I had a dog whose nails I used to trim. He had one clear nail and the rest were black. I used the clear nail to figure out how much to cut. I cut to the quick a few times - worst feeling ever! Still makes me cringe to think about it.
For those of you tsk-tsking saying your dog's claws were never trimmed - some dogs most definitely do! The dog above would have had Guinness book of world record nails that curled if we hadn't cut them ourselves. I have a dog now with all black nails - we never have to trim them. She 'self buffs' her nails with all the running we do. However, I recognize some dogs need the trim while others don't. |
Well, you’re clearly the expert and no dog ever needs their nails trimmed. |
PP here. I appreciate your kind words. No one has ever called me an expert before. Thanks. |
| Our vet did it to our black toed dog. |
