Can I lose weight using Peloton

Exercise alone won't do it. You need to track your food and eat better.

My diet is mediocre at best. I’m a mid-40s F and I ride twice a day (30-45 min each, am and pm, longer classes on the weekends) plus warm up and cool down classes, run 12-15 miles per week, also use the peloton app for the strength, yoga, stretch, and meditation classes. I take close to 12 classes a day ranging from 5 min to 60 min or longer. I’m addicted, I haven’t lost a pound, but my clothes fit much looser. However, I’m at my ideal size. If I were heavier, I think I’d lost weight quickly even with my diet.

In 8 months, I lost 34 pounds (150 to 116) doing daily Peloton... about 2 hrs of programming covering cycle, strength, yoga, and stretching. I didn’t change the types of food I eat since I’ve always eaten whole foods, avoided alcohol and soda, and limited sweets, but I did start tracking the amount of food I eat, which makes me eat less food. No more seconds just because it’s tasty! I still probably eat around 1800-2000 calories per day, which is a lot for my small frame. 43F, 5’3”, 116 pounds.

I lost 37 lbs using Peloton and eating. This fall, I suffered a back injury that kept me off the Peloton for about three months and i gained 10 lbs right back. Before my injury, I usually worked out 4-5 times a week and burned in the vicinity of 500 to 600 calories a ride per my heart rate monitor.

Dang. I was proud of my new routine of riding 3-4x a week and doing strength the other days. Some of you ladies are really putting in a lot of time!

I lost 20 lbs in 6 months (132 to 112). I do a 30 minute ride six days a week. For the first two months I cut back on eating but slowly switched back to my horrible diet. I was very surprised that the weight continued to come off. My next goal is to start eating like an adult.

Are you okay? If this isn't working for you, there's help and you don't have to overcome this alone.

I’m 49F. The scale reads the same number since I got my Peloton in August, but I buy size Medium shirts now, instead of large— my belly fat has decreased. And I can tell I have increased muscle in my quads and glutes. I ride 45-60 minutes 5x week.

Yes, peloton ride classes can burn around 400 to 1,000 calories an hour. So, as long as you maintain a calorie deficit between a healthy diet and exercise, then working out with Peloton ride classes can definitely lead to weight loss.

Yes if you eat properly too

Yes but not as quickly as running for equal amounts of time. Of course this is all mostly dependent on diet though. But for me eating the same diet when I’m running I’m 5lbs lighter than when I’m cycling on peloton.

This isn’t healthy.

I lost 17 lbs without changing my (not very good) diet. I went from 132 to 115 in about 6 months of doing 6 30 minute rides per week. I was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of weight I lost without cutting calories. My next goal is to start eating healthier foods.

I lost 21 lbs (141 to 120) in about 8 months with my Peloton and have maintained that for the last year. I didn’t change much about my diet. I was riding almost daily in the beginning when the weight came off but never do more than a 30 minute ride. Now to maintain, I shoot for 5 days a week, 3 of those a 20 minute ride with a short strength class or two added on (arms, core). The remaining days I do barre, Pilates, or yoga.

This is crushing.

yet so true

Depends on the person. My diet is mediocre at best and I do big diet no-nos (like drink soda almost daily and eat a lot of processed food), but my body responds instantly to physical exercise. I can drop 5 pounds pretty fast this way. I keep waiting for my metabolism to slow down but I'm still this way, even in my mid-40s and showing signs of perimenopause. I'm sure it will end eventually, but it's just not true that diet always trumps exercise when it comes to weightless. There are a lot of factors (including stuff like thyroid that is related to but not dependent on either diet or exercise) and it's truly person-dependent.

it's not about the foods you eat but how much. If you are eating at your maintenance calories and start exercising then sure you will lose weight.

But if you are significantly overeating calories or someone who thinks working out means they can justify indulging more then the scale will not move. Intense cardio also often increases appetite so people eat more and balance out the calories they burned through exercise which is usually fewer than they imagine.
