| Have your kid play ECNL and have them play b-ball too. If your kid is good enough your coach will not care, unless he/she is dumb in which case, your daughter can go play for another ECNL team. If she’s not that good then don’t waste time on ECNL in the first place. Btw. My kid plays ECNL and plays HS b-ball as do several of her teammates. |
| Your DD should 100% play another sport. I've heard from so many bball coaches hounding after my DD that soccer players make the best kids to play basketball. It's the need to find space on the court the same way they do on the field. Check any women's college roster and look at the bios of the women, so, so many have basketball or field hockey as a sport they played, while playing for a ENCL or DA club. It cannot be stressed enough that no team should not allow a kid to peruse another sport. Either you got the wrong message, something was lost in translation, or you must leave that club immediately. This is a recreational sport, not a labor camp. |
Not all ecnl teams prevent players from playing multiple sports . What club are you at now? |
| What about Alexandria? I have heard the 2009 girls are good |
Depends on where you live. There are a few club with good second teams(as in their first team is GA or ECNL). The thing you have to figure out is does the club care about the second team or does the club just see the second team as a cash cow for GA or ECNL. Most GA/ECNL clubs do not care about the second team. There are a lot of clubs who are not GA or ECNL and they will be a good option. Where do you live. |
| CYA has a great program. Very unique approach for the area. |
| What is unique about CYA? |
nothing |
Yea, easily the worst choice you could make. Not sure if the previous threads about it are still on here, but I think that case has been made. |
| CYA has a unique approach in their ineptness |
Ah yes similar to the fine gentleman over at Team America FC. So dubious if I say so myself. |
Yes. As a Chantilly resident I can tell you CYA was the worst youth club in VA for decades. Nobody ijn their right mind drove their kid to CYA to play on a CYA team - in fact even average kids would drive elsewhere to play - not because they were good enough that they needed an elite team, but just because CYA was so utterly and abysmally awful. Then the board got out of their own way and hired a good director who turned it around in 2-3 years and they were really headed in a positive direction for a couple of years. And then the board (none of whom should have been allowed to be in charge of a toilet-cleaning operation) intervened in a bunch of soccer decisions, insulted everyone under the sun, conducted a board room ambush and resinstated the previous executive (who was still on the board). And lo and behold many of the good coaches left, half the players left, and the organization is back in the toilet. So - no - don't go to CYA. Go to anywhere ahead of CYA. Quit soccer before you go to CYA. |
| If I am reading this right- no ECNL so I would think second team ECNL would be terrible. I would try for Arlington, Alexandria or Vienna. Gunston has some good teams but not the best location, depending on where you live. |
I assume the second have of this post is not meant to be accurate. |
That is good maybe they are better at basketball than soccer? |
