I bought a house with one and have grown to like it, not quite love it.

My biggest issue is that mine has set sizes for each burner so I can’t use small pans on big burners and vice versa. It can be a pain when cooking a big meal with many pots and pans.

I would never replace a gas hob with induction. But induction is far better than regular electric hobs.

We live in Europe and have a Bora cooktop, which I also love because it doesn’t require an external vent. They aren’t available in N America yet, I don’t think. But maybe some other brands offer the same thing? It’s so nice to not have the hulking stainless vent overhead.

So you don’t need a hood with an induction cooktop? We bought an old house without a hood and we were planning to get one built out during the remodel. But maybe we don’t have to?

You want the hood to remove the toxic fumes that arise from high temperature frying.

Normally you do need one, but this Bora model has a filter built in, sucking air downward through filters. There is no external vent, nor do you need a hood over top. It’s awesome, and made it possible to easily relocate our cooktop. The walls here are 1 meter thick solid stone, so there’s no way to easily relocate appliances otherwise.

Our kitchen designer here recommended it & after seeing my friend’s reno with the same model, we made the decision. I never saw anything like this in the US when we were redoing our old Chevy Chase house, but that was a long time ago. Maybe newer models offer this?

09:44 again. This is what it looks like: https://www.bora.com/int/en/cooktop-extractor/bora-basic/

They also have a fancier model with more options (but it gets expensive fast).

Had one in the past. I HATED it. From the special cleaners and pots/pans to the fact that it stayed hot for a long time after I turned it off, it was a pain. We replaced with a gas stove and I will never go back.

It is funny because she has always been a gal who likes the newest gadgets so we thought for sure she would love her induction cooktop. She was pretty excited because we bought all new pots and pans, etc, which was fun and cool. However, after about 5-6 months she began talking about how much she missed her gas range and how she missed using all of her regular pots and pans, the Dutch ovens and cast iron things, that she had been using for so long. Then once the glass cracked in two spots it was all over for her and induction.

I think it is interesting that so many posters say they like theirs. Anyway, it has been probably 9-10 years since we pulled it out and had the gas reconnected for her range. It has been a better fit for her.

What? Dutch ovens and cast iron work fine with induction.
