Yep. She didn't want to marry Albert in the first place. Tried to flee back to South Africa where she was born-and-raised. The palace took her passport and put her on house arrest before she walked down the aisle. Unclear if her family supported her or not, but after the wedding she was locked into the role. Her job was to provide legitimate heirs (Albert already had 3 bastards by at least 2 women) and look pretty doing it.

Unfortunately she hated both of those jobs - refuses to do domestic engagements - shows up to international engagements drunk - mostly wears unsuitable clothes/pants (fine for modern women - not so much for the senior royal matriarch) - refuses to wear a tiara and its a fight to get her to dress up. The only people she smiles at are her twin children. Everyone else is on Charlene's shit list.

I will say she loves swimming and helping with sporting programs. She's happiest in South Africa.

She can't. Monaco literally is an absolute monarchy. One of the few in Europe. Albert seems...non-despotic but if came down to it she would lose everything - her homes, custody of her kids (who are heirs to the throne), and financial security. The fact that she is a foreigner to boot makes it tougher for her because she has nowhere to run that isn't outside of the country. Albert is also a billionaire.

So yeah. Glass cage and all that - she'll die there.

Yep. Genes. They wanted a pretty broodmare. Albert is short, balding in his 20s, and looks like Seinfeld. They hoped that a Olympic swimmer would even out the gene pool.

Before he met her he was dating and had several children with women of diverse backgrounds and he still has numerous lovers.
