I suggested Masseria above and stand by it for culinary experience, but want to add that for dining experience, The Dabney is hands down my favorite. We've been there five times or so over the years and never regret it as a choice for a special meal. They don't forget anything when it comes to service. Everything is seamless. I feel so taken care of. People say that about Inn at Little Washington, but I find it a little stuffy. Dabney is a modern place but they have put a lot of effort and thought into the dining experience and they nail it every time.

I like the Dabney as well. Even their takeout is good while most fine dinning places’ takeout are just sad and wilted. |

I forgot about Fiola and Fiola Mare! I prefer Fiola Mare of the two. Ask for a table overlooking the river. Lovely at sunset. |

I’ve been almost all the places mentioned so far and Black Salt is my favorite. If you love seafood it’s just, great.
Rasika is also a nice experience. |
Masseria is so good. I don’t hear it talked about nearly as often as other places. |
| This thread is reminding me of so many birthday meals and anniversaries and celebration nights pre-Covid. So grateful for the memories. I can't wait to get a reservation and a babysitter the second we can! I think Fiola might be top of our list as we haven't been yet. |
The food there is excellent but it's definitely more casual in terms of dress (although not sure if that's what OP meant by fancy). We did the full tasting menu at the chef's counter which was a 3 hour event and everything was great and service was very attentive. I think it was probably $600 for 2 so fancy prices for sure. |
The vegan goat biryani was amazing. And I am a carnivore. (They also have plenty of meat on the menu. ) |
