Roaches and other insect live inulch and if they are touching the walls they will crawl inside the house. Termites, carpenter bees and wasps also can make homes especially if any wooden part of the house becomes damp. |

I don't know. I've seen maybe 3 roaches in the time we've lived in this house (7 years). Clearly there may be more in the walls or something, but if we had an infestation, surely I'd see them more regularly than once every 2 years or so.
I wouldn't freak out unless it becomes a regular occurrence. Bugs are a part of life! |
NP. This matters. If it's a big one, you may only have one (or a few). If it s small one, you probably have many. |

I know about giant waterbugs (same as june bugs?) No, this was a brown roach, I know what they look like from when DS was battling them (in the SW I lived in a place that had black roaches, armies of them that would come out at night). I'm generally bug-friendly (I get carpet beetles in some spots in the house if I've missed a cranny for awhile, they don't bother me. Spiders and daddy longlegs--fine, I just sweep down the webs when they collect dust. But the cockroach site I visited had giant pictures and artwork of roaches and I did NOT like those pictures!.
Thing is, if I put out bait, just because of the time frames--6 weeks at least been roach 1 and roach 2 (which may or may not have been the same roach) -- having point sit out on my counter for weeks? Diatomaceous earth same? The Raid suggestion brought up another thought--if they're hiding and STAY hidden, I'm pretty much good with that. I'm leery of anything that would turn them into refugees on the move. |
| I'd fog the entire freaking house! |
Upsetting, but true. I would call professionals. I realize an issue has to be extremely important to have someone come to your home, but a roach infestation seems like a good reason. At least those folks already come suited and masked up! |
We called those palmetto bugs. Vile. Spiders with wings is about the only thing I could think of that would be even more upsetting. |
I'd move out. Roaches are my single greatest (irrational) fear in life. |

I sorta, you know, own the house. |
Well, the roaches will be co owners if you don't get rid of them asap! |
Life tip: Do not ever watch the movie Creepshow. |
| Do you live in a townhouse? Maybe you have new neighbors on one side or the other who brought them with them. As far as I know, roaches don't just show up without a source introducing them to the environment. |
They say that roaches lay eggs in cardboard boxes and in food can labels. |
