U of R has a very traditional quadrangle and beautiful campus. That part of NY gets great fall foliage and pretty snowy winters. It is cold but not bad if you dress for it - long down jacket, hat, gloves, rubber boots are a must. Plus all of the quad buildings are connected via tunnel and I think some of the dorms might be as well.
FWIW, my husband went there, studied economics, math, and stat, and now does very well financially, if that kind of thing matters to you (>700k). |
Not quite. Syracuse is a great school for communications and broadcasting. If you want to do that, go there. Otherwise, this is right--Rochester is a fantastic research school, oft-overlooked. One big advantage is no D-1 athletics to distract the school. They focus on academics--as they should. The campus is beautiful and big, right on the Genesee river. The medical school / system is one of the best in the country. Rochester is a great choice. |

UR is great for medical sciences. My husband did the joint bach/med degree and graduated in 7 years. UR is connected to Strong Memorial Hospital which is world renowned.
It's also well known for engineering, especially biomedical and optics. |

LOL this is so not true. We live here and I wish it would start snowing in November because that would mean we could start ski season already! Last few years, it hasn't snowed until after Christmas. The temp will be in the high 30s-low 50s up and down until Jan. Makes it very tough for local ski places to make snow and stay profitable. |
Whatever, people on this website are money hungry. You know it's true, it's all anyone talks about. I'm just letting the OP know you can be successful from this school. |

UR is willing to give a lot of scholarship money to kids who could otherwise attend a US News top tier (1-20) school. It's in the next tier down and they are trying to attract better talent.
My nephew went there to study engineering, got a bunch of scholarships that added up to a big amount. Graduated with only 20k in debt (which is amazing considering the list price was something like 65k all in while he was there). |
+ 1 My DD attended Eastman, which is affiliated with UR. She really loved her time there. She now lives in a suburb of Rochester (Brighton) and is a music teacher married to a physician who went to UR med school. It is a beautiful area with truly lovely old homes from the 1920s and 1930s that you can get for an absolute steal compared to here (under 450k). |
I went to JMU and make $140K |
PP here. There are successful and non-successful people from every school in the world. Your husband's success speaks to much more than where he went to school. |
