We had a mattress delivered yesterday. Tipped the 2 guys $20 each. It annoys me but I feel guilt if I don’t tip.

I always do, if they are pleasant and do a good job.

LOL - you think that money goes to the delivery guys?

If I'm getting a $2000 set of appliances delivered to my $900,000 home I can spare $20-$40 for the delivery guys making $15 an hour doing back-breaking work - I always tip these guys.

My hard rule is I only tip for food/drinks, hair, and massages. I need to draw the line somewhere.
When I say food, that’s only in-person dining or delivery. Only recently (due to COVID) have I started tipping for carryout.

I don't tip for furniture delivery in less they go above and beyond. I did just tip the appliance, washer and dryer as they set it up and provided everything so I save a lot and could return all those supplies.

Not everyone lives in a $900,000 home.

Trust me, they are not bring paid well. They are not considered skilled workers like ppliance repairmen. Yes, you should tip, each delivery person It doesn't have to be a lot-- not like a hair stylist!--- but I'll give each guy $20. They are appreciative which makes me think they don't expect it.

Not the homeowner’s responsibility.

Our tipping culture is completely out of control.

Oh, they expect it. I had a bedroom set delivered a few years ago. I was actually planning to tip the delivery men as they were leaving. Until I signed. Stuck to the clipboard was a folded $20 bill - a clear “wink-wink don’t you forget the tip wink-wink” reminder. That really put me off and I gave no tip. The delivery men were clearly pissed, but that was their problem.

+1. The tipping complex is out of control in this country. You didn't do anything wrong, OP. You don't need to tip furniture/appliance deliverers.

While I agree with you, it’s no reason not to tip. The reason it’s gotten this bad is because we pay people starvation wages. I wish we could have a European model where the bulk of the person’s income comes from wages and the tip is just a nice extra.

New poster. I tip all the time but that would have really annoyed me too.

That must come from people who didn’t yet see them “assemble” the bike. For $250 they cut it open out of plastic.
I got a tip for you- stop charging robbery prices and I’ll tip your boys- not
Till then
