For the sanity of the parents, I would recommend not getting Candy Land. I really grew to hate that game. ![]() |
Anyone else have a kid who "gets it" but refuses to play by the rules and cheats to win? He's not even 4 yet... |
My kids liked games by Peaceable Kingdom, cooperative games so you all win or lose. |
This was my son at that age. He is very competitive and hates to lose. He's now 6 and follows the rules 95% of the time, so has improved. His 4YO brother doesn't care about winning and follows the rules. |
Zingo
Sneaky Snacky Squirrel The Mermaid Game (except everyone but my preschooler hates it, to include my older kids) Sleeping Queen (preschooler doesn't really get the addition facts, but plays fine without that) The Ladybug Game - this one is GREAT for 3-6 or 7 yo. |
My 6 year old has gone through that phase on and off. I consider it a valuable life lesson, because that part of who she is isn't going away. She has to learn how to lose. |
Chutes and Ladders! 3 is a little young but my 4 year old loves Uno and Go Fish. |
Any memory game, played with cards face up. https://www.amazon.com/Animals-Matching-Game-Bob-Barner/dp/1452100551 |
My 4 year old has played with cards face down since 3 just fine. We never did cards face up. We usually do about 12 matches, and she does best if we lay them out in a 3x8 grid for some reason. |
Hisssss!
Rhino Hero Animal Upon Animal |
For my soon to be 5 yo but we've had for some time:
- Feed the woozle - Peaceable Kingdom's mermaid game - Camelot Jr. - A modified form of Blockus - Old Maid - Uno - Matching |
We bought Taco Cat for this Christmas; I'm excited for it. |
Spot it, Hoot Owl Hoot, |
Ha I hear you! I also really don’t like the redesign of candy land and chutes and ladders. My 4yo likes Zingo and the Busy Town game. |
That’s great. I offered an option in case it’s overwhelming for another child. It’s a good starting point to show concept of game. |
