Humor?

Will a 93 on CoGat get my child in if he has humor, too?

Not true. I’ve worked with many profoundly gifted children who are so logical they have no humor and don’t recognize it coming from others.

Some are! I had a very bright AAP student last year who was always cracking me up!! Miss him!

Look at Larry David and Trevor Noah. Profoundly gifted.

Research has suggested otherwise.

The gifted resource teacher at my kids’ school (not in fairfax) goes around 1st and 2nd grade classrooms to identify potential gifted kids. And she does small projects that use strategic thinking, and tell a story with advanced humor.

She told me She was pretty sure my son would test high on screening test before the testing took place, because of the way he reacted to her story. Also his sister is gifted so he was already under the radar. By the way, my son is very easy to please. I’m thinking he sensed this teacher trying to make a joke, and laughed even if he didn’t get it.

So it sounds like among the people who work with gifted kids, giftedness is often associated with humor.

Our kid is funny but it's a macabre adult shouldn't be said outside family let's make a note of that for future therapy sessions kind of funny. Like we think she's hysterical but she's funny in a jaded cynical sarcastic 40 something kind of way. Nothing about her humor we want to put down on a paper trail. We decided to say she's occasionally funny and found a benign example to support that.

Maybe our kids should be friends. Mine makes jokes about burying bodies where they can't be found and things like that...but the delivery is honestly the best.

My husband and I were joking that this would be a comedic gold mine if someone got a hold of the answers to this question

Agree! I couldn't put "consistently" with a straight face when I couldn't figure out what would be an example, so I did not.

My kid is too young to get an IQ test but tested 99% in NNAT. I did not understand the question. My kid makes average jokes.

For example, does Sheldon Cooper display the kind of humor they are looking for? Give us an example!

Let's be honest, this is true of the ENTIRE questionnaire. I can't imagine how cringeworthy most of these responses are (probably mine included).

I asked a couple of years ago if I could leave this question blank as I had absolutely no examples. I think I just said her sense of humor was appropriate for her age.
