Which school district to move to from DCPS?

I think the aftermath (once school returns) will drive more families away than what’s going on right now.

I’m a Lafayette parent, seriously considering a move to Bethesda or Arlington. I think the school pyramid we are in is only “adequate” for high school, there’s a lot of chatter about moving us to Wells/Coolidge, and there is no appealing public university in DC.

Bye Lafayette parent. Maybe if more of you move the school won’t be so overcrowded

there is no “in state tuition cap” for DC residents. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

We're making definite plans to move to Arlington next summer for our two kids, scouting out real estate for an elementary school and middle school that feed to Washington Liberty (we want IB Diploma there). We no longer trust DCPS and the WTU to reopen, even for hybrid, in the fall. Not just bitching, going.

BYE

I have "friends" who were so upset with the DL Arlington was providing they are selling their house and moving to Delaware.

Fellow Lafayette parent here. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. I weep for your new school, just another administration for you to terrorize. And you are full of shit about Deal and Wilson. Talk about something you know about elitist snob.

Uh, they’ll just let in more OOB students.

You seem really hostile. All I’m saying is that looking at the entire situation, including the upcoming boundary review and college options, it seems like moving to the suburbs might be a good idea. That’s why I’m seriously considering it. I promise I don’t terrorize the school administration. And I don’t actually advocate for anything. I think it’s be pointless. That’s why I’m thinking of moving. (I’m not the OP, I’m the person you are responding to.)

I know none has really opened, but to me, the fact that all schools in the country were going to go hybrid 2 days/week, and DCPS came up with their own “unique” plan speaks volumes to me that the district management is way too inadequate to improve within my kids school age time period.

You would leave because of anonymous posts on DCUM? And you give a pass to the abhorrent comments from parents on DCUM? Puleez. Go howl at the moon elsewhere child.

Are you not familiar with the DCTAG program? It provides up to a $10,000 per year scholarship to close the gap between in-state and out-of-state tuition. And it is not means tested (I mean, it is, but at $1 million).

I think you're wrong about that. I'm much, much more likely to move now for MS. Previously I had been pretty sure that I would stay in DCPS for MS and HS. But now I'm going to make a much bigger effort to move or use a charter instead, or even make a major financial sacrifice for a private. Even Catholic schools (which I had been adamantly opposed to as an ex-Catholic) are a possibility for us now. I realize that charters have not reopened either, but I would do anything to distance myself and my kid from the WTU now.

Ummm, does someone want to tell PP? You see, charters are also doing DL right now. But good luck to you.

Of course I know about TAG - but it's not an "in state tuition cap." DC residents pay full out-of-state tuition in MD and VA. TAG is only $10,000 still leaves you with a big out-of-state tuition bill, because the difference between in-state and out-of-state at flagship publics is about 25k-30k.

“Close the gap” is not an “in state tuition cap.” Also, the $10,000 isn’t adjusted for inflation and hasn’t been increased. So assuming your kids are young enough that you’d consider bailing on DCPS and moving elsewhere, the DCTAG program seems less appealing when you are trying to project years into the future.
