This is the primary reason I would not test. Not willing to give up a child I gave birth to. Maybe years later out of curiosity when that risk has passed. |
Then you sue the fertility clinic or who ever is responsible for the mix up. Your kid is still your kid but you get several millions out of it. And if the other parent is found, the child can have a relationship with them or at least know the medical history. |

Or the genetic parent is found and you have to give up your kid that parent. No way I would risk giving up my kid for a million dollars (or even several). |
Unlike wrongful death lawsuit, determining damages in wrongful birth lawsuit is tricky. Had there been birth defects that the doctor missed, you could get millions. But for healthy birth and happy family just found out the kid is not biological, there will be some damages but certainly not in the millions. Let’s say certain multiples of IVF cost and the lawyers take 30%. |
