Report Cards

Seriously, I know that. You missed the entire point. Two kids, same class, completely different efforts but the same grade. It reinforced for one kid that goofing off and doing nothing is fine and for the kid that worked hard, it showed her it didn’t matter. She could have coasted and not shown up like the brother half the time.

It is so hard to grade during all this. If you are worried, ask the teacher how she got the grades. It is also very easy to click the wrong thing on the software for grades, so if something seems way off, ask the teacher, especially if it is a large class or specials where the teacher was clicking tons of boxes.

Why are we worried about grades for elementary kids? I was in this same mindset. There was a lot about my child’s report card that didn’t make sense, but I’m letting it go. Otherwise, I’ll just stew about it. Although, admittedly, I’m still scratching my head over his 4 in PE when he doesn’t do jack in that class.

So you don’t think grades will have any impact on the 2nd graders this year as they go through the AAP process? The committee will look at kids with 2s or 3s and not view that as any less than a child with all 4s? All I’m saying is that one school giving everyone 3’s regardless of effort is wrong and unfair. Especially when other schools actually give grades.

My son had 2 in writing last year and a bunch of 3s in LA and was accepted into AAP.

My kid got 3s and 4th. She is smart but does not like school and has been slacking off the whole time. I was surprised - I expected much worse.
