It was tough having to tell him that we weren't going to attend because he understandably wanted to celebrate with his teammates. But I'd rather him be safe and unhappy than momentarily happy and run the risk of ending up with COVID. I've seen pictures from the event and there was not a single person wearing a mask so in retrospect, I feel certain that we made the right decision. And just as you mentioned, in a few of the photos, all of the boys were bunched up around a table playing games and watching videos on their phones.

Do you have a crowd-sourcing site to raise funds for their hospital stay? Or the wakes and funerals?

Hyperbole doesn't help. You think multiple pre-teens and their coaches are doing to die?

I see you found my joke lol

Our team party was individually wrapped cookies outside after the last practice.

It's additional time together, and they're probably sitting near each other for longer periods when eating and sitting at a table, then they are in a huddle. Our huddles are just a few minutes, eating pizza together is at least 30 minutes. Why risk it? My friend's son's travel team had their coach catch Covid right at the end of the season, all the kids have had to be tested, and luckily none have tested positive, but can you imagine if they were sitting next to Coach at a pizza restaurant?

Ergo, kids having a pizza party.

No! Have you not seen what happened in local catholic schools due to Halloween parties?

They are playing yes, but the contact is short-lived and fleeting. Pizza party is sitting next to each other talking and eating and whatnot.

For a sports team like soccer where the kids are already breathing all over each other outside, I’d have no issue with an outdoor celebration. But not inside.

Possible remedies:
1. sit 6ft apart
2. sit 10ft apart

As far as talking, I'm not going to take that seriously. They talk on bench/in game/at practice and that includes the other team.

definitely pretty easy right?

I agree with the PP. Outside is fine. Have the kids wash their hands before they eat. Masks on when they're not eating. One parent with clean hands serves the food.

I would never let my kids do this. Sitting less than 6 feet, masks off, eating for 30 minutes? No way. And we do let our kids play soccer and baseball, outdoors, masked.

What happened?

Yeah, we are about to be faced with this same situation coming up, i'm giving my kid a heads up that we aren't going to allow it.

after the end of the season tournament, there is nothing to keep going. My kids are in public, so returning to school isn't at risk. They'll attend their respective parties and if we have to quarantine as a result, it's not like they have anything scheduled in winter anyway
