That's simply not true. I've rented more than a dozen houses in the outer banks and have never stayed in a home like you describe.

Please share links. I’d love to find a nice rental that’s close to the beach.

This is true with most houses, but we've rented some newer houses that have updated furniture. In the end, they're all "nice enough." We spend most of our time on the deck or at the beach, that the family room set is wicker from the late 90s isn't a big deal and won't ruin our vacation.

I am the complete opposite. I live in a nicely decorated house, and I want that or nicer on my vacation. I would never stay in a ratty, run down motel. I Burmese this as the same thing. I don’t want to spend a lot of money for a house and then get grossed out every time I want to sit down. I have th Rama problem in rehoboth. No one updates. The nice places are $15k a week, but they are almost impossible to get.

Although I have no idea how you Burmese anything I'm 100% the same as PP. Haaaate renting houses. They always gross me out. Much prefer a swanky hotel, although it's not realistic at the moment.

Although this is in the 4x4 only access part of the beach. Ton of beautiful houses with tons to do without needing to leave.

Can't be super specific without more budget info.

You can get that if you pay for it.

I have a owned a beach rental before, one that rented for 15-20k/week. We had people destroy nice deck furniture and use it for fire wood. TVs taken off wall, without tools and moved all over the place. Food left in hot tub, burning out motors. Bottom of pool covered in sea shells. Kayak used as a back stop for archery practice. Furniture taken off deck, down to beach and left there. Indoor furniture pulled out onto deck and left there in storms and not moved back inside after departure. I could probably list 20 other things.

Gorgeous house, but did you rent this PP? Was it perfect? Because it is very pricey. I think OP needs to provide a budget, group size to get a specific rental. This one sleeps about 14 -18 people. Plus OP asked for Corolla or Duck and this rental is far from there.

I agree you can find decent houses at a reasonable price in OBX and high end houses at high prices. We can't afford high end. "Decent" means something is bound to not be working properly; or one of the mattresses is hard; or a screen is broken. I'm the pickiest one in our family, and we always enjoy these houses. Sometimes the view makes up for a small inconvenience here or there. I'm sure a lot of these issues happen because renters are rough on a home. Especially if you rent at the end of the season, lots of people have been in and out and had plenty of time to damage things.

Eh...I'd be careful else you could argue it's free advertising/marketing which is a no-no on DCUM.

Why don't you just type in "beach houses in Corolla", enter your dates/bedrooms, and use Google Maps to see where you are in proximity to the beach (access point) when X houses turn up on your search.

Have you never booked a vacation house before??

Oh FFS. Yes I have booked dozens of vacation rentals before. But folks here go to the outer banks a lot and there are also a lot of bad reviews out there. I thought some one here might have useful suggestions and it seems they do.

This is OP. It’s for my small family of four. But we’ll likely end up in a house much larger than we need because that’s what is available. There are amazing deals on winter rentals so while we might pay $2k plus and find something ocean front I expect we’ll end up in a sound front or sound side rental for about $1500.

Does anyone have views on Twiddy, Brindley Beach or Vacasa?

No, did not rent this house. Did a five-second search and this came up. We've stsyed in small and large houses. While some our a little dated, most are clean and more than adequate for aweek at the beach. Unfortunately, as much as we loveOBX/Hatteras Island, we are being priced out for the summer rentals. IEven prior to COVID, when people were traveling further, the prices were getting steep.

I've used the first two without incident. No experience with the third. I wouldn't worry about which firm you use. Just find the house you want and then call to talk to the leasing company about any specific questions you have.
