all children have an IEP!!! Every child has an IEP.
some have specialized ones |
Who is the PP who keeps saying this on threads? Go to school sometime and ask to see your NT's kid IEP. I think you will find yourself highly disappointed. |
Indeed, the above poster who keeps making this false statement on various threads needs to educate herself on what an IEP is. It’s deeply offensive to to have a child with a disability (and corresponding IEP) and read such an assertion. |
| I don't know what that poster means, but in my child's class, the majority of kids have an IEP. So obviously, not all of our kids will be getting seats, even though all of us need a seat to properly fulfill the IEP. |
This. The six-foot-rule needs to be dropped within a cohort of young kids. It is impossible AND unnecessary. Other countries aren't doing it. Wear a mask and do your job as necessary. |
Doesn't mean we have to risk ourselves to do that. I don't trust families. How do I know you're social distancing and not going out all the time?? |
| Janney Parent here: I know of kids with IEPS who got seats, and some who did not, which means there are more than 11 ELLs and IEPs in that grade. Kids with 504s were NOT given any priority. Curious to hear if there is any movement this week as people give up spots. |
| We’re new to Janney. Are there really that many kids who are ELL or at risk? My kid has a pretty high level IEP (many hours) which can’t be done remotely. So irritated they’ll likely be remote now for many more months. |
Depends on the school and class, but there can be. Lots of ELL embassy kids, and plenty of IEPs that you are likely unaware of. |
IEPs were prioritized second, only after homelessness (so above ELL and at risk). As a Janney parent, I’m pretty sure there are few of any homeless kids in most grades, so I would assume that if your child did not get a seat it’s because there are over 10 kids in the grade with an IEP and you simply got unlucky in the draw. I would also assume not all initial offers will be accepted so you’ll still get one. The IEP bucket was a complete lottery with no priority given based on severity or type. |
Really? It was specifically asked and they didn’t have any ideas other than to complain to central office / leadership / etc. |
I’m shocked you know of kids without IEPs who got a seat. In fact, I’m dubious of that. Perhaps you don’t know they have an IEP and the parent is lying by saying they do not. The only other possibility is that the administration believes the child should have an IEP and is severely at risk for lack of one and learning lags and so a seat was given to them. I understand there are one or two seats per grade reserved for such teacher-identified preference |
We are in a similar situation. My recommendation - continue sending emails to Dr. Wood and Principal Lutz expressing your concern about DCPS providing FAPE. |
There are a whole bunch of exceptions and updated guidance for public health emergencies, particularly COVID. That argument won’t get you anywhere |
I think you misunderstood. I meant there are kids who have IEPs who did not get spots. Not every kid at Janney with an IEP got a spot. |
