Best way to sell a used car

Car Max gave me a great value. I would also price out Vroom and Carvana.

Even for newer car, Carmax is a big rip off. No gain without pain. I have always sold my cars privately for a lot more than carmax was offering.

It would be great if you have a friend or two, preferably Male who can accompany you when selling directly.

Good luck!

+1 you never know. I had a POS Subaru that barely ran. Carmax offered me $3000 and I took that money and ran. Sometimes the time and hassle you save with Carmax and similar is worth the cost.

I did the KBB online price estimate, and it was higher than I expected. Two affiliate dealerships followed up with emails, and I went to one, and they confirmed the estimate price. I sold right there. The lack of hassle was totally worth whatever small amount more I might have made from selling private. They took care of all the paperwork and stuff like that - I just walked out with a check.

The overwhelming majority of people are good so I wouldn't et too worked up about it. Just take normal precautions.

I bought a Jeep private sale recently. But, I brought my teenage daughters with me so I doubt the woman selling it felt threatened.

It's usually not a "small amount" you're giving up. It's usually a grand or more.

Agreed. Our dealer offered a reluctant $500 for trade in but we took it to Carmax and got $2400. Maybe Carmax is a better deal if you're trying to sell a hoopty.
