No. Extended family loves each other and we have a great time.
I LOVE my first cousins and I am so excited (even at 50) where there is a big family event and we can all be together. My boys love their cousins. My sister's boys are 20, 25 and 27 and my 15 year old and 12 year old have always loved and laughed and had a great time with them---even with the big age gap. |
My husband's male cousins are like brothers. His immediate family was highly dysfunctional and he lived in the same town with his cousins. He spent more time at their house than his own. |

Every social media narrative has a set of "boxes to check" that show the world how happy and well-adjusted you are.
Posting summer vacation or christmas pictures with "cousin love" is definitely one of those boxes. So, regardless of truth, and I sincerely believe that lots of families are happy and have great cousin relationships, that box is going to be checked by people who care about their social media persona. |
I took photos like that with my cousins LONG before social media existed. Wanting a photo with, say, all the cousins, even the cousins aren't best friends, is actually a pretty normal thing, and yes, you tell the kids to smile. Those photos can be valued even if you weren't really close. |
