| Unclench in order to land your helicopter. Why do you assume all 10th graders are bad influences? Does that mean you assume your son will become a bad kid when he's a 10th grader? |
| OP - not in these strange times. It's normal. Any other times, we could debate it. |

Nah. It can seem weird in 8th grade. But, by HS, it would not be at all unusual to have a group of kids grades 9-11 or 10-12 who have a common EC they are all passionate about— ie, members of a sports team , marching band, drama, robotics team may hang out across servers grades, with the older kids playing an older sibling/ mentoring role. Get to know your kids friends. Raise your kid right and keep an eye on it. But by next year, you’ll likely see more of this.
COVID is just strange because the ECs are outside of school. |
| DS 19's best friend is a 17 year old girl who lives a few doors down from us. They've been besties since she moved into our neighborhood when they were 7 and 5 and they are still just friends. It's very much like a brother/sister reationship (they're both only children)l. They both have a huge interest in astronomy and often get together with their telescopes to do skygazing. A hobby they've been able to keep up during quarentine, with social distancing rules in place of course. |

Skater culture does seem to cut across age groups. My 8th grade skater knows and will hang with high school aged skaters. He even meets college kids or adult skaters when he’s out and about skating.
I think more kids seem to be skating since the pandemic, including younger kids and girls. Our town’s basketball court has turned into a skating spot. |
| By the time they get to that age and get to high school, they have friends in all 4 hs grade levels with the same extracurricular activities/hobbies. |
