Potty trained 23 month old staying dry all night (11 hours).

My DD was like this too at 2 yo. It's normal everywhere except the USA.
Make sure he's just well hydrated during the day

It is possible.

But I would be worried that he is not drinking enough. Very few people go 11 hours without using the bathroom

Most of my younger siblings and cousins potty trained early (grew up in third world country-no disposable diapers then). However all of them woke up at night to use potty.

We potty trained at around 2.5, kid would stay dry at night long before we potty trained. I think it stated happening around 15-18 months. Had plenty of accidents during the day when we potty trained. Has had 2 while sleeping and she’s 5 now. One during an oddly timed nap and one at night after she had trouble going to sleep and drank a lot of extra water. She still drinks water at bedtime. Not tons usually, but we don’t restrict it. She can hold her pee like no one I’ve ever heard of. Actually made it really hard to convince her to go to the bathroom sometimes. And we definitely don’t encourage her holding her pee, but dry nights without effort have been a nice bonus. Of course I doubt we’ll be so lucky with our younger one.

Once he had an accident at preschool and I called the ped and said I was concerned because it was the first time since he had been potty trained that he'd had an accident, and the pediatrician blew me off, saying it was perfectly normal to have an accident at that age. I was like, yeah, but it's not perfectly normal for this particular kid. That was the only accident he had.

You called the doctor after he had a one accident in preschool...

I would call the doctor too. DD potty trained at 21 months and started preschool at 3.5. She never had an accident for two years - the majority of her life. If she suddenly had an accident in school, and there were no extenuating circumstances, I would absolutely call the doctor. Same as if I suddenly peed my pants.

Are you actually insane?

My DS has fallen out of a tree, from quite high up--and we've not only avoided calling a Dr. but even let the kids continue on playing, in some instances. That's why band-aids and Neosporin exist.

I feel sorry for your pediatrician. Jesus.

If you want to encourage it and not run the risk of tons of laundry, get a box of pull-ups and put them on over the underwear as a just in case. Since it’s just an external backup, you can use them several nights. You also can do the same for long car rides in the beginning. It will still take a while before a kid tells you he has to pee and you have more than thirty seconds to get them to a bathroom.

I’d say instead of pull-ups, get washable pads that you can put right on the bed. Same effect, but no need to maintain the association to the diaper.

- zero diapers since 22 and 24 months for mine
