+2 on Little Critter. Very much the same vibes. It’s also reminiscent of Maurice Sendak without the overarching sense of dread.

Sweet Pickles by Richard Hefter, if you can get your hands on them (out of print). An animal for every letter of the alphabet who gets into a pickle each book.

These were my favorite when I was five. I was obsessed with the maps on the endpapers.

Don't look for the same type of series, just focus on a series with relatable characters and messages you can tolerate. Series are one of the best ways to teach children, because they remember details about the characters while being able to take in a new plot and message.

Daniel Tiger...and has got a lot of the same themes and lessons as Berenstain B.
