TJ admission question

Sounds like if you haven’t completed geometry before starting TJ you are at a disadvantage?

You used to be at a severe disadvantage, just based on the numbers of kids admitted.

Probably much less so now. And there's no disadvantage once you're actually there - you just take geo when you arrive thru TJ Math 1.

Can you take geometry in summer before 9th?

You can, but now that it is not a barrier to TJ, why would you? TJ Math instruction, including Geometry in TJ Math 1, will be very comprehensive so you won't want to rush your kid.

since its a lottery, it will be lower caliber than langley and clean which are not

I would say if your child LOVES STEM and wants to focus on a STEM curriculum, then I would say put his/her name in for the lottery and then take the spot if won. If your child does not LOVE STEM, then don't even put your child's name in for consideration. Its honestly a pain for your child to go to TJ unless you live in the old boundary area anyway.

I was there in the 90s, so I don’t know what it’s like now, but I will say that many of my friends were there because they wanted the good humanities classes and they simply put up with the extra required science classes, senior tech lab, etc.

Great writing skills. Well written, nice punctuation, proper sentence structure, and a well reasoned hypothesis.

Still think that a strong student will have a better chance of being selected for the merit lottery (many kids who apply won't be) if they're in Geo as opposed to Alg 1 in 8th, especially if it's something that your school offers.
