My kid is in preschool and I wouldn’t nor would I expect other parents to keep kids home for a 99 temp. |
What is your preschool cut off temperature? Most are not excluding unless they hit a temperature of 100.04. Runny nose and low energy levels are Covid symptoms as well though. |
You need back up care. Its selfish to send a sick kid in. You could kill someone. But, hey, as long as you aren't impacted, no big deal if Larla's mom dies. |
Allergies don’t kill people (at least not other people). If you have allergies, your job would not let you stay home 3 out of 4 seasons. Your kids childcare wouldn’t either. |
My preschool says 99 and above, you can’t go. They check every morning. |
One of my kids natural temperature is 99 - every day. Guess he could never go to school |
Umm NO BACK UP CARE. You’re really suggesting it’s ok to to kill the backup sitter instead? Wow. Terrible advice- they should be staying home with the parents only. |
Brother's kid had 99 fever a couple of weeks ago. Sent home from day care. Ped said no need for covid test - probably HFM. Three days later, 99 fever again, finally got covid test and was positive. By then entire family had it and they had exposed but not infected our parents. |
It's so puzzling why some doctors/nurses are still holding back on Covid tests yet if you cite needing to travel out of state you can get it easily. I've heard a couple cases of this recently where the regular pediatrician just didn't think symptoms were enough to warrant testing and the parents had to take the kid to urgent care or the county testing site and still beg for the test. It shouldn't be this hard at this point to get a test! |
If I knew your kid was in my kid’s class I would be fine with this. A doctor said not to test - don’t let non-experts convince you to stay home for two weeks for no reason. Ignoring experts is how we got here and it isn’t how to get out of this mess. |
Usually people have allergies yearly. They don't just crop up one year. If you are sick, stop being selfish and stay home. |
That is completely irresponsible. |
You know your kid and his usual temp.
My kids are usually in the 97s. If either of them had a temp of 99, I would absolutely keep them home, even though school says 100. (One of them is in person at a private) And OP's kid doesn't have "no symptoms" He has sniffles and a raspy voice. Keep him home, OP, until his fever is *normal* for him and he has *no* symptoms for 24 hours. |
I think I'd get a Covid test for any illness with a child in group care. Many kids have mild or no symptoms, but they can still spread it.
You are protecting the teachers here. But I realize it sucks. This is the new reality of group care. That it very quickly can shoot you back to having NO care at all. Since if you have suspected covid, you can not do any sort of back up care situation. |
This is ridiculous and not even what the CDC or Maryland Department of Health recommends. 14 days is what is recommended for a child that has had exposure to someone with COVID, not a child with a 99 fever. The guidelines recommend excluding a child with a 100.4 degree fever or higher for 72 hours after the fever resolves. |
