Need suggestions on where to live due to job offer in Frederick, MD

If you are on the panhandle of Florida - my assumption (based on friends comments) is that just about anything in MD will be better than what the schools offer in FL.

But if you are looking for ultra competitive many MoCo MD schools will fit the bill.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. They really help! Schools down here are strictly okay. Safe but the level of academics tend to be nothing special.
Any more info on the Mt. Airy, New Market area? Is there enough to do out that way? How would the commute into Frederick be? My extended family lives in Baltimore and So. Maryland, so that would be a closer location to them.
Thanks!

New Market to Frederick is about 15 minutes on Route 70. Mt. Airy to Frederick is 20-25 minutes on Route 70. You'll be going against traffic, since a lot of people commute from Frederick to Baltimore to work each day (about an hour or so, depending on office location).

Frederick is pretty rural by DC standards, but it's been built up a lot in its own right. You'll find all the shopping you want out there, although nothing really upscale. But very comparable to suburban stuff. There's the Francis Scott Key mall, with JC Penney, Macys, and Sears as the anchor department stores. You'll find Wal Mart and Target and Costco in Frederick as well. Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, Aeropostale, to name a few more chain type stores.

Frederick has a cute little downtown as well, with little restaurants and art galleries. There's a cultural arts center as well. All of this stuff will be on a much smaller scale than what's available in DC or Baltimore, but you are only about an hour away from both DC and Baltimore.

The area is fairly conservative and Republican compared to DC for sure, but you'll find a mix of people.

Both New Market and Mt. Airy are much smaller, and have much more of a country feel to them.

Frederick County schools are very good. Maryland's ranked #1 overall for its public school system, FWIW. Mt. Airy might feed into Carroll County school system, which is also good.
