X5 and Q7 are 15-20k cheaper and the third row is unbelievably cramped.

Q7 back row is terrible.

Mercedes has been really on a different trajectory since the late 2000's and early 2010's, designing their cars with organic external styling, and really rich and opulent interiors. I'll admit that exterior styling is subjective, but just go and sit in the various cars that's been listed in this thread. You'll be spending all your driving time looking at the inside of the car, and Mercedes is at least a generation ahead of BMW and Audi. Go look at the BMW X5 interior - a bunch of jumbled chisels and chevrons that looks like a modern art project. The Q7 interior is better than the X5, but is trying way too hard with three different LCD screens, and get this: glossy oak wood inlays. Are we still in the 90's?

Again, don't just listen to me, go drive the cars. There's a reason the GLS450 cost more.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I’ve owned the GLS already and the new dashboard is what is drawing me to a new one. I find mercedes to be very luxurious inside, and I was surprised that I also really liked the Volvo too. It comes better equipped (leather and heads up display), but just trying to figure out if mercedes is worth the extra $20-$25k.

I’ve driven all of the cars in the class. Did not like the Audi at all, and I’ll never buy another BMW. Volvo quality does worry me.

Yea, the MBUX system is a very nice upgrade over the old Command system, perhaps the best in-car system this side of a Tesla. MB has been doing this integrated digital dash longer than any of the other brands and their experience in this regard really shows.

I am not sure about the XC90, however. The interior looks really dated to my eyes. This is just personal preference though. If you really like it, that's all that matters.

In my mind, these two are in different classes. The GLS starts at 70k+ and that's where the XC90 ends. A GLS can be optioned out all the way to 150k if you do the AMG thing. Have you had a chance to drive the XC90 yet? I'm curious what you think of it.
