Why no library books? A masked adult with clean hands can distribute the books to the masked students and the adult can go wash their hands after distributing them.
Masks Social distancing whenever possible; masks ALWAYS when not Frequent hand washing |
Of course they are scared, we all are. And yet speaking personally as part of an essential worker family who has to show up to work everyday, we put on our big girl panties and deal with it. Sorry if I am short on too much sympathy. |
My neighbor teaches at one of these schools. She does not confirm your agenda. |
One step ahead of you: I already quit, partially because I don't believe my employer was doing much (or anything really) to protect faculty and partially because I'm sick of uppity parents who think that teachers are cannon fodder that can be easily replaced. There's already a teacher shortage, so have fun paying $40k/year for some Teach For America greenhorn who'll quit after 1 year. |
I’m a private school teacher and my school’s plans are great. I feel confident going back and I am looking forward to seeing my students. The combination of cohorts, distance, open windows, upgraded ac, fever checks, parent contracts, student masking, and me wearing a KN95 all work together to make this worth trying. I have 12 kids in my room; I know it wouldn’t work for public, but we have better resources. It is what it is. |
Did someone try to shoot you with a cannon? You were unmotivated. No big loss. |
This is the truth. I learned today my daughter's private Maryland high school will not be having sports this fall, amongst other things. She is a VB player going into her senior year (with college athletic aspirations). We are currently considering other options...stay in private school for 1 class and pay $$$$ or transfer to our local public (which she can still enroll in virtual) and play sports (we are across PA line). There's no point in staying. |
All of the private school parents I know have their children enrolled in travel sports and are traveling all over the country (including hot spots) just to arrive back in town before school starts and throw them all together. Temperature checks are really just providing a false sense of safety. |
To be clear - the catastrophe here is the pandemic. If schools go under, it is because of the pandemic - not because of teachers, administrators, or county leaders. |
Don’t go back. Your health is more important. |
Our private school is allowing any staff member who needs to work virtually to do so. They will be in virtual resource room positions or zooming into the classroom with aides managing. |
Follow the science. Don't be scared |
The catastrophe is the teachers putting their histrionics ahead of all else and abandoning their students while apparently still expecting to get paid. Until this I had the utmost respect for teachers and supported them financially and emotionally whenever possible. No more. Thanks for nothing, private school teachers. |
+1000 Don’t you think frontline healthcare workers might be a little scared too? |
So sorry PP. I have two at a Maryland private school as well. I think we were all holding out hope that HS sports would happen this fall for private schools, maybe with parents providing transportation. As you say, with virtual learning and no in person activities on the horizon, we might as well have sent them to public school this year and saved money. |
