Please don't allow your ego to make your kids sad. All kids deserve good things in life.

We will still celebrate but the celebrations will be just with our household. I think it is important for the kids to maintain traditions. It may seem pointless but they enjoy them and it can help lessen the stress. Holidays may not be quite the same but there is no reason to cancel them all together.

I'm going to be the voice of dissent and say that I like this idea. I've never been a big holiday person myself, thanksgiving and christmas are typically just my dad I (no kids).

I love the idea of putting aside the dog and pony show, but I'd only opt out if it meant doing a trip.

This is a great idea. I've been enjoying the vintage Jeopardy lineup!

You must have had some HUGE plans for those three holidays if you can take the money you'd have spent on those to pay for a HOUSE. Holy shit.

How much do you spend on these holidays that you can use the money to buy a house???

Why can’t you just celebrate at home and relax? Sounds like heaven to me..not to have to travel and visit in-laws.

Our holidays will not be as festive because we will likely not be sharing them with family and friends. But we will do our very best to have fun.

Is there much of a dog and pony show if it's just you and your dad?? You what, share a meal together and exchange one gift?
