Would you switch daycares to save 7K per year?

It was great otherwise, but when our center opened back up we moved him back for various reasons (not Covid). I wouldn't assume that bigger center = bigger group. A lot of centers have basically carved themselves up into small groups that have no contact with each other and don't share teachers.

In Maryland most home daycares serve 8 children max. Centers can have 15 people in a room, and they can technically have more if they previously divided one room into two. Unless each room at the center is completely self-contained (e.g. they have their own bathroom) it's unlikely the teachers don't have any contact with each other at all.

Absolutely I would switch - unless the switch makes me drop off/pick up less convenient.
