Let's be honest. There are plenty of times that they are unnecessary. The problem is that many people don't use them when they're very important. |
I super don't care though. |
The only time they are unnecessary is when you are driving alone during the day and there is no car behind you or coming towards you. Kind of like a tree falling in the woods. Other than that, you need to use them to indicate what your intentions are. Other drivers cannot read your mind. |
+1 They are also legally required. You have to signal your intent to turn. It's a huge safety issue. I use my turn signal even when I'm alone on an empty road, because you want it to be a habit. Going to turn or change lanes? Turn on signal, check mirror/surroundings, turn. It should be automatic. |
All states require the use of turn signals when turning or changing lanes. Most countries require turn signals on all cars driven on public roadways, with exceptions only for cars of a certain age. There is no way that BMW stopped including turn signals in their cars. If someone told you that, they were making a joke about how crappy BMW drivers are. |
| I'm 48 years old and lived in DMV for the last 25 years. In general I have not encountered that many people changing lanes without turn signals and I always use mine. I thought this was some kind of inside joke of a thread and not serious when I first saw it....like OP is going to jump on and say...well if you use turn signals as a courtesy to other people, why don't you wear masks....or some shit like that. we saw see because it's a pretty stupid topic. Everyone knows that the should use turn signals. |
Do you know the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? |
| OP here and I actually post this question every few years on this forum and still have gotten no substantial answers. I guess it's like sex with demon when you're asleep. Like, how does that work? I mean I've encountered (not often but more than once) someone coming to a stop sign the same time as I am and then turning left with no signal. I'm just trying to figure out what the mindset here is. Totally disengaged while driving? Like a previous poster said it's just a habit with me. I'm turning I move my wrist very slightly to indicate with my turn signal. It's like automatic. It's not that hard to do. |
| The best is on the highway when they merge lanes and turn their blinker on once they are already moving into the other lane. Why bother at that point? Honest question. I know there are some of you out there... |
We noticed this, too! I wonder if it's one of those luxury features BMW wants to charge you a subscription fee to use? Beemer drivers must be choosing the heated seats over the signals. |
Did you feel the whooshing sensation as that sailed straight over your head? Give it a second read with the literal setting on low. |
Not if they slam on their brakes for no reason. |
Yep, even then. You need to give yourself room to stop because you do not know if the car in front will need to stop suddenly. |
