Kid's pajamas-why so $$$

Anonymous
I think it's because with more people home and time on their hands, they're shopping. And that's driving up prices. Companies don't have any incentive to discount.

I've noticed it too (although with other items) and have decided not to buy things for a while.

pajamas are also sprayed with lots of chemicals. Fire retardants and things. So maybe there's a disruption in those chemicals?

No clue, but past age three my kids have just slept in t shirts a lacrosse shorts or athletic shorts.

Maybe. My brother died in a fire trust me, if your pjs are on fire flame retardant isn’t going to matter.

It could also be that sales are down at store fronts because of COVID-19 and so costs are higher making sales less doable.

There's a lot of supply chain issues with COVID and a lot less consumer purchasing because of COVID. I would assume that is why.

Carter's older kids clothing is much more expensive than their younger kids' clothing. I've been buying PJs from Costco and Amazon.

This information is about 40 years old. If pajamas are cotton and close fitting, they do not contain fire retardants. If they are polyester, they don't contain additional fire retardants as polyester is naturally a fire retardant. That's about 98% of the PJs on the market.

Does Costco have their own brand (Kirkland) kids pajamas? If so, Are they good? We’ve tried the amazon essentials brand for kids pjs and they shrunk a lot and got holes quickly/easily so I went back to carters. But would be interested in finding a cheaper alternative that holds up well if that exists—my kids can typically wear pjs for up to a year before outgrown so I don’t really mind paying a little more if they’ll last but cheaper is always better

Nobody’s buying cute back-to-school clothes. Everyone’s just stocking up on pajamas since their kids will be home all day

Yes they do have a Kirkland brand but they aren’t always in stock. They’re nice thick cotton.

I have luck finding Carters on Amazon for fairly cheap. Just got a 3 pack of Carters for around $20 (seems like the price went up a few bucks, but still a great price for 3 pairs!). https://www.amazon.com/Simple-Joys-Carters-Transportation-Elephant/dp/B079662FJN/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=carters+size+7+pajamas&qid=1596143210&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&s=apparel&sr=1-1

I haven't had any luck with any Amazon brand clothes being in stock.

Fire retardant fabric. There may be production issues due to covid.

Most likely this. There is a national shortage of bikes for all ages predicted to run through after Christmas. There is a national shortage of weights. Used golf carts for resale are in short supply.

This is all covid related. Supply chain disruption, trying to make up for lower sales/no sales during certain periods, etc
