Daycares have been open full time. Aren’t they at risk too? Kids don’t spread to family members. Not one case has been proven and most studies say they can’t. Kids aren’t dying or having long term issues. Please stop. |

If someone in your family has a comorbidity, then no. I figure that no matter what they do in these settings (or in a classroom setting), you are betting on the fact that none of the 12 or so kids in the pod gets the virus. If one kid gets it, all kids will get it, no matter the precautions because of air circulation and the lengthy time they are together.
That said, if you are a young family, then the problems from the virus aren't terribly severe. So it's a calculated risk to get child care and social interaction for your child. |
| I would only do this if I had no other choice. |
| If private space, How's the wifi? Can they support a few dozen Zooming kids? Will they provide devices or will it be BYO? |
They said that they hope to use the schools, but it wasn’t finalized yet. |
Yes! I was thrilled to get this email yesterday. Hopefully it pans out. |
Our aftercare plans to use the schools. If so, there is WiFi available. |
I’m not sure it would be dramatically less effective than DL at home where we only have so much of an ability to monitor things in real time while working. |
| Our aftercare is doing this and we are likely going to supplement the academic part (tutor a few hours a week?) but definitely do it. |
Agree. Plus, I bet they group kids by age anyway. So your kid can get help from other kids, just like in school. |
+1 Also kids don’t learn well from their parents. |
I think they will allow the daycares to use the schools. My kid is doing a sports camp and they were issued a permit to hold camp at an MCPS middle school. So, MCPS is already issuing permits for the fields. I’m sure they want the income from people renting the school space that will not be used in the fall! |
| Yes! This is a great idea. Goddard is also doing this. We would do it if our infant was there but he’s enrolled somewhere else. |
| I am impressed by the ingenuity of the private sector. |
+1. My kids don't need it but good for Bar-T and the other providers for coming up with solutions. I do think MCPS or the state needs to pay part of the costs so it can be affordable to families |
