| Not the same name at all + it only ruins it if you let it! |
| Well the two are just variations of the same name, like Maria, Mary and Mariam which is basically the same name in different languages. Still, you’re safe cause most would think of them as distinct and also few years from now, few would associate the name with Melania Trump (especially future 10 year olds). |
Yeah, good one! Name a child after a lazy-assed gold digger? |
| No because the first Melanie I knew as a kid was overweight and mean. I met another Melanie as an adult but she goes by Mel, and she is lovely. |

Just like Hilary ruined the name Hilary.
I cannot hear that name without a bad taste in my mouth I need to spit out. |
| Melania Trump is a lovely woman. Many of you posters here are not, and I bet some are married to some pretty awful men. In fact I know you are. I've been reading this forum for years. |

Yeah, no. |
HA HA! Too funny. No one wants to name their daughter after that lazy, waste of too-tightly-pulled skin! But I think you’re safe with Melanie, OP. Ivanka and Donald are off limits forever along with Adolf. |
| Totally different name. I like Melanie a lot. |
I have a daughter with this name. I can tell people's leanings the minute they hear it To be fair, yes, the name did basically fall off the charts after HRC came on the national scene. But it is a great name and since I DO lean that way politically, I wasn't afraid to use it. The fact that it wasn't in wide use made it more appealing to me. I did NOT name my daughter after HRC, to be clear. |
I love the name Hillary. |

| I've never associated the name Melanie with Melania. |
| No because we don’t blame women for their H’s failings. |
