My DS is a u13 and our goalie still just wears different color jersey not the whole kit.

I agree with the venting. In addition to the regular game & practice uniforms, our club requires warm ups & backpack. It all adds to be above $300. All players have to buy it every two years cause the uniform design looks different.

Nike kits are so expensive compared to Adidas.

Our Club only uses Nike.

Thank you! Glad someone agrees with me.

And some clubs didnt switch or "reup" travel kits this year.

Not true I haven't any ECNL or former DA tams with sponsors on jerseys. Branding like Nike or Adidas aren't sponsors

Bethesda's training kits have a sponsor on it.

Luckily using them for a 3rd year this year.

The older kids with out club seem to take pride in how many uniforms old their backpacks are - my daughter was furious when here tore and had to be replaced

Kit life spans last 2-3 years before Nike,Adidas, Puma etc phase them out.

By year 3 availability is low, so in order to ensure everyone matches most clubs change uniforms every 2 years.

Your quarrel is with Nike and Adidas, not the clubs.

Agreed but why make everyone buy backpacks & warm-ups? All they need is game jerseys/shorts and choose a cheaper practice t-shirt instead of an expensive practice jersey that costs more than the game jersey.

In terms of sponsors, my son's Alexandria team doesn't have them. However, I was startled last year when we played a team that was even worse than ours (we are blue so mid-level players) and they had Emirates Airlines as a sponsor on their jerseys. Not sure how that happened.

Meh. Not really. I mean, the basic uniform color is the same even when minor details change (e.g. small red stripe across the shoulders vs. just white with numbering). It isn't as if players would confuse the team based on that.

By that logic, just put the kids in tshirts and hand draw their numbers with a sharpie

But while we are in the subject, I can bitch about soccer kits? What a freakin' scam. I am so over it. Based on my experience, every club "requires" new kits every two years. When kids are younger, I guess it makes sense because the kids probably outgrow the uniforms. The absolute worst, though, is when your kid joins a club in the second year of uniform rotation (as mine did last year), and then has to buy all new uniforms the next year. I wish that clubs would give families a choice this year. I don't feel like spending hundreds of dollars for kids my kids won't wear for the second year in a row!

Another huge annoyance is when a club changes sponsors altogether. So you know those extra Adidas socks you bought so that your kid would always have a new pair? Now your kid isn't even allowed to wear them to practice.

And don't even get me started on the "required" backpacks. I look in our garage and feel ill when I think about the food and necessities for families in need I could have purchased instead of so many $65 backpacks.

OK. Thanks for letting me vent.

No club I have ever known ever enforced the backpack. Just get one that is the same color.

I've been doing this for a while. Some, but not all, have the online ordering system prepopulated with "mandatory items" so you can't get past it.

Even when there is a list of mandatory items you're not forced to order everything on the list.

soccer.com makes you actually put the items in your cart- try to check out with a partial and you get an error. You can delete items from the cart though - it's just not obvious
