Camp trip to Six Flags

Anonymous

Hi Bob - My kid isn't at your camp, so take what I say with a grain of salt! But I would not be ok with the plan. I would much prefer you take them white water rafting or tubing, or do a paddle board lesson or sailing. What about paint ball or laser tag outside? All of these would make me much more comfortable as a parent than an amusement park which is pretty much run by teens. There are just way too many potential covid hazards. Thanks

Thanks for the trip suggestions..... we do almost all of them. We didn't do paintball this year because we knew we'd have kids who wouldn't like it. I do appreciate the feedback.

I'm not familiar with KAH, but I just wanted to say that it's refreshing to see someone who runs a program being so open to feedback and transparent about the thought process.

Bob's the best. I wish he would teach a master class in corporate communication to some executives I know.

How about chartering a boat for the day - fishing or sailing?

Bob, you're great! I also run a summer camp and I don't think 6 Flags is a good idea. Just too many possible problems. I'm impressed with your candor and willingness to figure things out. We GOOD camps have to continue to try to make the (safe) most of this summer for the kiddos!

Agreed. My kids switched schools and we had to leave KAH for a different aftercare provider, and it's just not the same at all. KAH spoiled us, and we still use them for camp. In fact, I have a kid doing their traveling camp later in the summer, and I would be nervous about Six Flags (although a friend of mine went a few days ago and reported it feeling safe and empty), so I'm glad he is open to feedback.

I just got an email blast that the trip has been changed to Potomac Play Pass. Woo-hoo, Bob!

Not a tough decision at all . The camp is being totally irresponsible. I would doubt their judgement, now, regarding absolutely everything!

That's a bit harsh. As you can see, the director shared his thought process, sought feedback, and ultimately cancelled the trip. The camp in question does a lot of amusement park trips in normal years so its understandable to want to get the kids back to as normal as possible. As a KAH family not currently using camp, I can't tell you enough how much we all appreciate the way Bob communicates and is much more than fair about cancellations, tuition, etc.

Hon, the budget is a six flags admission.

I went to high school (RHS) with Bob. He was a good guy back then, too!

Parents choosing to send their kids to KAH Adventure Camp have made their peace with this. There is a trip on a van every day. Everyone has a different risk tolerance, and it's OK that you wouldn't be OK with this when others would.
