Return to school options - TJ Freshman

Anonymous
DC is doing DL for a TJ summer course now. It’s very fast paced and demands intensive studying, and it keeps DC engaged, motivated, and mostly importantly, happy. It gives us more confidence on DL in the Fall.

If you choose DL for your freshman, I suggest you pay attention to helping your kid build bonds between fellow students, teachers and counselor through activities and stuff as much as possible. Once kids feel appreciated and supported they’ll thrive. Academic challenges are not formidable to many TJ kids, at least the freshman year.

2023 parent - answering the PP who asked about IBET last year, they sadly didn't get to finish. no one was allowed into the school to pick up their projects. as much as seniors will tell you that IBET is the worst experience of their TJ career, it is apparently some kind of shared terrible experience that lots of freshmen were sad to see vanish. One of the biology teachers was allowed to rescue some projects and being awesome she tried to run some of their experiments in her kitchen so the kids could get some resolution to their hypotheses.

I think TJ admin will do as much as they possibly can to make the freshman experience this year a good one. Pick DL or in person based on your own comfort and risk tolerance. There will be lots of kids in both environments. It is going to be ok in the end.

OP - 2021 Parent Here - you should be following in your TJ parents FB page - there are more details about daily schedule, alphabetical split and block schedules. And a town hall scheduled for tomorrow I believe. They are working hard to figure out the best solution in a very difficult situation.
