How many masks will your child take to college?

If you are buying from etsy, make sure they are machine washable. Many aren’t, and even some sore bought masks with nose wires are not.

I was thinking 30. I'm making them so the have a filter and nose wire but more is nice as we don't have to wash regularly.

I thought the filters didn't really work unless you had a really tight seal (not possible with cloth mask).

It helps, better than nothing. The important part is to have it covering your nose and mouth. It can come in through the sides/top, bottom but the direct concerns me the most. I sew in non-woven interfacing and it feels more solid than just plain cotton. If I go somewhere I am concerned like the pharmacy or doctor I wear a disposable surgical mask.

I like the surgical masks. They are cooler than the cloth ones. Also they are more protective. Finally, for my son who loses things all the time, it is a better option.

365 days, 8 changes per day, 4 years.

That is a lot of underwear...

Medical folks wear N95 masks and other masks with vents. You should change your surgical masks or even cloth mask after every hour to prevent lung infection from dampness.

NP here. I handwash my disposable surgical mask and air dry. I am able to reuse them (because they are not made of paper) easily and do not have to throw them away.

They are not wearing masks with vents.

"Lung infection from dampness"? Citations please, medical ones, and no Daily Mail type nonsense.

If that were true we'd have been seeng stories for months now about medical professionals dropping from these supposed lung infections. I spent eight hours (masked every second) in the ER with my DH very recently and saw the same nurses and doctors throughout those eight hours and they were not appearing with new masks each time they came in. They even commented about how they were glad they now have one to two new masks each day--not each HOUR. Stop spreading false scare stories. Are you one of the people on the public schools threads insisting that children will pass out if they wear masks for the school day?

Why are you making stuff up?
My sister is an ER nurse and works with covid patients. Their n95s do not have vents and they wear the same mask all day long.

About 5 cloth ones and a pack of 50 disposable/surgical ones for each kid- I have to say the disposable ones are the most comfortable to me. I expect both my college students to use them several times before tossing.

Sending at least 15 but expect to resupply as they get lost or break down after washing.

I'll probably send 10 cloth and a pack of 50-100 disposables. I expect the majority of the cloth ones to end up in the bottom of the backpack, under the bed, etc.
