Williams and Amherst are also going to test students upon arrival and then at least once weekly.
All students are invited back to Williams, but they have a very lenient gap year/leave policy so many may choose to wait a year. They're giving a 15% discount to all students. Amherst is only having freshman and sophomores during the first semester so everyone can have their own room. They will not be permitted to leave campus and all meals will be grab and go - you can eat outside with others as long as there's social distancing. No visitors on campus and no visiting allowed between residence halls. They're setting up large tents on campus for seminar-style classes. Both colleges are letting students take only 3 classes as a full load. Williams which always has a January term will not have one this year, but Amherst is having a fully remote January term. |
So now you are criticizing the school for using their resources to protect students and staff. You really can’t win with this crowd! |
| Sweetbrier College in VA is small enough and has enough space to stay open. Was featured in the Washington Post this week. |
| Did any of the schools say what they would do about sports? I read the Colby article but did not see anything about sports |
Bowdoin is cancelling fall sports |
| Waiting for Smith. Early indications are that they are planning to open with lots of testing and remote option for those who need/want it. Fingers crossed! |
As have Amherst & Williams. Middlebury announced they're "undecided." |

Oberlin is doing trimesters (3 class years on campus in fall and spring, 2 in summer), which de-densities and allows single rooms for all. Testing as the first stop on campus, then isolate for 24 hours until your results come back. Ongoing testing of asymptomatic students, faculty, staff at least once a month.
Masks everywhere except dorm rooms. Grab and go meals. Using their hotel to quarantine. Isolated area, and kids with a socially conscious bias and will mask up to protect the community. No frats. No call on sports, but it’s D3. Etc. If any schools can make it work, it’s these SLACs in isolated areas. They have a great plan. Then again, the best laid plans... |
