My wife was a team manager for a local club about 4 years ago. She was told to hold off on rejection letters until they could fill out the roster. She felt bad because it caused a few kids to miss out tryouts for other teams.
She should feel bad because that is horrible. I would have refused to comply.
If you haven’t heard after a week your kid either didn’t make it or will be at the bottom of the roster or may still not make it if someone better comes along. They are incentivized to tell their favorites as soon as possible, lest they get snatched up somewhere else.
If you have an offer from another club and were waiting for a week to hear from your own club, you can reach out to your club and let them know that your kid has another offers and ask them to speed up consideration.
Both BRYC and Mclean are notorious for this.
