Is a kidney stone the worst pain imaginable?

Not even close. Delivered 3 out of 4 of my children with no epidural, one was 9# 14oz, and I would do it all over again instead of passing a kidney stone |

Have never had a kidney stone, but have had childbirth where the epidural did not work on half of my body. Ear infection pre-rupture absolutely worse. Once it ruptured - instant relief.
I feel TERRIBLE for kids after that. |

And bone cancer. My dad died of it. |

| The thing about certain types of cancer pain is that you know it will only end with death and you don't know how far away death is. And not all people who die of those things are delirious/out of it--my dad was fully aware when he died of cancer and in tremendous pain. |

| Kidney stone was the worst pain I've ever experienced. Couldn't get away from it no matter what. I vomited so much (sorry, gross) that I was just retching and vomiting up bile; I also burst so many blood vessels in my eyes from the retching that I looked like a demon for weeks. I was always an abstainer of drugs, but in the hospital, once I got that first dose of Demerol, I remember being half conscious and begging them for more because it made the pain go away and I was floating on clouds. When I finally passed it through a strainer, it looked like something from outer space - a small stone covered in spiky crystals (looked exactly like the cocoon that Superman traveled in as a baby). No wonder it hurt so much in the urinary tract. |

Oh my goodness, yes. It's 2am and I am supposed to go to sleep... I guess I haven't felt that much pain after all (D&C only with local, deep fillings without numbing) |

ovarian torsion - the worst, by far, for me
kidney stones / unmedicated birth are close for #2 and # 3 worst (for me) After ovarian torsion.... I totally get why people become addicted to pain meds. I would have taken heroin if it had been offered to me |
