Please Explain WPPSI-III Retest...?

Anonymous
OP - I am in Dallas too and got my D's scores - but it only shows V, P and FS. I think the other posters are poinitng out something that other cities (DC and NYC) provide - underlying score such as processing speed - and sub set raw scores (some of which peak at 18 or 19).

Being from Dallas, you don't know anything of those - but those schools you applied to do - and those subset scores might be a problem. Hence the need for retest?

Which scores were you waitlisted at? The WL decision was probably since you weren't sibling, minority or legacy or big name (Cuban, Perot, etc.)

By the way - OP - did you retest or not? Is he/she in a Dallas private now or not? Just curious as to how it worked out.

My child took the WPPSI-III last year, did well (99 overall, not 99x3). He was waitlisted everywhere we'd applied and ended up being shut out.

We went through the process again this year and took the same test as part of the application process.

My question to any psychologists out there is why this retest is needed? I'm not a statistician but from what I can figure out the test is considered 'highly reliable' and I take that to mean that year -to-year the results will be nearly the same. Is this correct?

If it is correct, then what is the logic of forcing parents to spend hundreds of dollars on a retest that will provide no new information to the schools to which we've reapplied?

Thank you..

OP, do you want to be "right" and get your way about not having to pay again, and have the AD's at every school and the WIPPSI testers all change their policies, just for you or do you want DC admitted. My guess is , if you routinely ask for special concessions form people, this behavior may have been flagged on your DC's rec or noted in the parent interview ( PITA parent red flag) . Smile, pay the money, have DC take the test , just like every other family in Washington. Are are you "special" ?

OP, you are correct. Stick to your guns on principle. Why should a child with a 99 repeat this foolish test within a year? Don't follow the gluteus maximus licking, hero worshipping, obsequious dcum crowd for whom any end justifies the mean.

I'm pretty sure OP was not saying the new test was within a year of the old test. She was asking about a new test a year later.

Do you actually think a year and a day or 2 years makes a difference in this case? Of course, it is no surprise you have completely missed the point!
