how old was your child when you allowed them to use the regular car seat belt (no booster)?

This is dependent on height and not age. My oldest was 8. My youngest is about to turn 9 and isn’t quite as still (has about another inch left in my car).

9 for both boys

I am not sure it is actually safer but I feel better doing it. (Although watching kids climb in and buckle and parent drives off in .5 seconds looks nice too).

You dont have to go from 5 point harness to low back booster, my kid has been in a high back booster with seat belt since shortly after turning 6

4’9” and 80lbs. It’s not about age.

We'll ask DS pediatrician this year for the official guidance. DS, turning 8, is 74.5 pounds and 4"6' so I think we are getting close. It is hard to know how comfortable or uncomfortable he is at this point because he has been in the car for about 30 minutes total in the last 3 months.

My 9 yo is a long way away -- she's like 4'3" and 55 lbs. Though none of her friends are in boosters. We live in a walkable area where people don't drive much, but on the rare occasion we have carpooled, have seen that they use nothing.

I remember because I carpooled and didn’t purchased additional boosters. I wonder how many car seats and boosters you have had to purchase over the years to accommodate height changes, not to mention various cars.

Then why are you commenting except to say you are a bad parent as no kids should have been out by preschool. It doesn't matter how many car seats you have to buy.

Actually it is about age, height, weight, and belt fit.

10 and in the back seat only. My 7 year old is still in a high back booster.

8. She’s at the 98% percentile for height.

I hate ignorant comments like these.

In 1998, our 5 year old neighbor was killed in a car accident. The lap seat belt severed his belly. If he had been in a car seat/booster, he would have survived. It was incredibly tragic. I don't care how silly it looks or if we have to spend $50274 on car seats over the years. My children will not die an AVOIDABLE death.

Mine was 6. Back when the laws were sane.

I just allowed my kids who have spring birthdays. My son is 10 at 4'11" at 81lbs and my daughter is 12 at 4'10.5" and 89lbs. The seatbelt fits them appropriately.
