Capital One Employee’s: How will they ever make the McLean towers safe to return to?

Yeah, there are a lot of workers like this, especially those who workEd from home full-time pre-pandemic. I was able to calculate that several managers on a specific team had about 1 hour per day of measurable work. I told upper management and showed them the proof and they defended them and I got a low bonus and rating that year...

But let’s rush to reopen schools.

Very little marginal value add per capita there

I have interacted a lot with Cap One employees and they barely have enough work to stay occupied. I am very surprised senior management didn't cut down the fat but it might happen soon. Really bad are the contractor staff at the Richmond location. Contractors working on multiple jobs and easily get by not doing much and taking double paychecks.

This sounds about right. In addition, I have observed a lot of harassment(also sexual towards women) from the managers and directors. HR don't do anything.

I feel like 80% of the posts on this thread are from a disgruntled ex-employee or someone who wasn’t hired. They have nothing to do with the topic at hand!

To answer the question - I think job functions that can work remotely will work remotely until a vaccine is widely available or we get herd immunity. Capital One is very associate-focused.

My take - capital one is employee friendly but only in terms of perks and not for professional growth or reward/promotion, etc. It doesn't matter when they would be allowed to get back in office as the work culture is very lenient and you really don't have to perform to survive there.

Agree. It’s a fantastic job for career learning at analyst level. It’s not so useful at Manager, Director or VP.

But where else can you get paid $300K+ to work 10 hours a week?

It’s not all bad.

Managers/Directors I have known at Capital One are pretty horrible in doing their job. They would not survive even in the state government setting. Analysts have no way of moving up before 5 years in. I have seen analysts over there makes from anywhere in between $80-135K.

I want a job like that

There are a lot of disgruntled ex employees! They have had a reputation for years for randomly firing tons of people. From everything I’ve heard, it depends on what team you’re on. My DH worked there for about a year under a real idiot (he’s been very successful both before and after that). He couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there. But they were very flexible about work, and I don’t think he was that busy.

There could be some ex-employees. I never worked for them but with their staff a lot of time and it's pretty chill. Very difficult to get fired on performance. Really cushy jobs are the shady contractors for Capone that jack up the CV of their employees to keep the bigger bucks for themselves. It was a real s**t show there.

In financial community, you go and work for capone when you have nothing else or just want to relax for a few years.

This place is golden handcuffs at the expense of your career. There are a lot of random firings but the good news is that only 20% of the people do 80% of the work.

If you don’t want to Work here and make money doing nothing, then spend your free time (while getting paid) looking for another job. A lot of us will milk this as long as we can.... kids in school and need to pay for college. I personally love my Work life balance AND a $200k+ salary with lots of perks. And everyone I know who got let go — whether voluntary or “forced” — got a great severence package

NP here. Same experience. Incompetent manager who had political clout. I managed to move internally but overall a toxic & environment focused on keeping up appearances. The very less work makes all this politics hundred times worse.

I loved Capital one.

The people were nice. Many were very smart.
Got paid $300K a year and literally worked from home 4 days a week.
Took probably 6 to 8 weeks vacation a year. Christmas and New Years was basically a guaranteed month off.
7.5% 401K match, plus more deferred compensation and stock
Solid healthcare plans
Nice food on site and gym
Expense accounts to eat whatever and whenever I wanted
Low stress job
The lights literally shut off at 6pm. Leaving for home at 3pm is normal.
I made it to the gym every day, went to WF, bought that nights dinner, etc. It’s practically like just having a pension and occasionally doing some work when it seems interesting.

The only real downside was it wasn’t a meritocracy: it was 100% promotion based on favoritism. I wasn’t “in” so I couldn’t move up and decided to leave, but it was such a great job. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
