How can I quickly use up more than half a gallon of buttermilk?

Buttermilk pie. Old Amish style recipe according to the cookbook I have it in. So good.

My mother would drink it straight.

Pancakes, make a bunch and freeze them.

Lots of variations of this, but it is delicious and super soothing. Use buttermilk where it says curds.

You can also soak chicken in buttermilk, coat it in flour, and fry it.

Buttermilk lasts a LONG time...weekly pancakes, muffins, cornbread...we usually use up 1/2 gallon every 3 weeks or so.

I freeze extra in 2 cup portions for waffles, brownie and dips.

This recipe is amazing. I use it exclusively now for roast chicken. Better than what you get at a restaurant.


It has 2 ingredients...buttermilk and salt. Her persian rice is even worse.
