Lots of doulas will take you on pretty late in your 3rd trimester anyway if you change your mind. The exception would be if you are extra anxious and need some hand holding from the beginning (I don't mean this in a derogatory way- my practice does'nt really do much handholding/holistic support all the appointments are really quick so if I had had a less easy pregnancy and needed more support the doula would probably have been who I would have turned to).
Thanks for sharing! In what sense did you find the experience lacking? Did you find the doula more distracting?
I’m hoping for an unmedicated birth, in which case an in-person doula is supposed to be extremely valuable, but I don’t know how the virtual one would work out...
