We just bought my son a mattress from Macy's online. I got the highest quality one in our price range. He hates memory foam, likes soft mattresses, and so I got him a pillow top spring mattress.

He's happy.

The delivery was contact free and easy to schedule.

Don't forget that the slats (if you have them) also affect firmness.

My kids all have my green Mattresses and love them and they are non-toxic and very affordable.. truly , I have two boys and a girl all under age 8. [/quote]

My 7 year old had had a MyGreenMattress since he moved to his twin sized big boy bed at about 3.5 and it’s seriously the most comfy mattress in the whole house.

The twin size Tuft and Needle is $350 and they have a 10-year warranty that's really good. Not sure what size you need, I was just guessing a twin.

We bought a twin size saatva and liked it so much, we bought a king size for us. When we upgrade the kid to a larger bed, we will likely buy it again.

We bought these a few months ago for my kids' new bunkbed and they've been great: https://www.allmodern.com/furniture/pdp/wayfair-sleep-10-medium-memory-foam-mattress-a000240739.html

NP here, but we also just bought a wayfair sleep mattress for our 4 year old - it arrived today and has a very light smell (like you have to be ON the bed to smell it). We're going to leave it to expand and offgass for a couple days (the bed hasn't arrived anyway), but it would probably be ready for her to sleep on tomorrow!

I'm this PP - it's a few hours later and the smell is gone! I think it was just packaging smell. Bed is super comfy. Highly recommend (was recommended to me by a friend). And under $200
