Same question -- kid (older - age 15) has taken to learning Arabic on Duolingo. It's been 6 wks that he's stuck with it. IDK if he continues it thru the summer but I imagine he'll eventually get bored of the app. Any ideas on things to watch/YouTube etc. that could keep him engaged?
We're Muslim but not Arab so those of us who know any Arabic in the family can just struggle to read (for religious services)-- we can't make actual day to day conversation in Arabic. |
I found this for you: https://www.arabic-for-nerds.com/netflix-arabic-series-movies/#jinn-%d8%ac%d9%86-first-netflix-arabic-production I have heard that a lot of Arabic shows are made in Egypt so even though the accents can be very different between countries, most Arabic speakers understand the Egyptian dialect. I do not if this is actually true, or if used to be true but isn't anymore. The new netflix show Jinn is in Jordanian Arabic. That looks very promising for a 15 yr old! Also The Secret of the Nile is a remake of Grand Hotel (which was in Spanish/set in Spain) set in Egypt. I loved Grand Hotel. Usually something like that (soap opera-ish) is fantastic for learning a language but the drama is understandable and the characters have long arcs so you get hooked and pick up a lot. GL! |
