Evangelicals: Can you explain to me the desperation to open churches?

Yeah I haven't heard this either, listened to the radio and all the religious leaders (well most) were saying safety comes first, even the pope says "no" it's all a big push from Trump and then folks feel obligated to go along and his bible belt supporters. Do you see Melania, kids, Trump or Fox 5 at the Church, beach or boardwalk they know better!

I wish the press would start asking these questions when at the press conference, where is Melania why is she not out shopping in public sans mask with Baron and getting her hair done? What's good for the goose ….

I’m an evangelical in metro DC suburbs and I don’t see churches reopening. My own large evangelical church is not reopening yet and taking into account what the health officials say. Many other evangelical churches around here are the same. Caring about the health of their own parishioners and ultimately the whole city as we live amongst everyone. Maybe in other parts of the country? Not around here though.

Our giving has ironically been the highest ever. We aren’t concerned about money at all.

Also, OP remember that “evangelicals” on TV are a whole different type of evangelical than the people in your community. 99% of us are not crazy!

Depends. Do you vote for Republicans? If so, you are crazy — or just deceived. Judges that will decide to ban abortion (following the fake bible translation changes in the 1970s) aren’t worth screwing children and the poor by cutting social safety nets and funneling all money to the top 0.01%. Jesus would be a Democrat today — Jesus was an SJW. Just read the sections of the Bible on Jesus condemning the rich and the pursuit of money, and warning his followers against the Pharisees and money changers. And Jesus advocating for giving money to the poor and to children.

If you vote for Democrats, then I agree. You’re not crazy and we support your church and community. And tell us the name of your church so we can go there!

I haven’t voted for a Republican, but wouldn’t rule it out entirely based just on party. Currently I would not vote republican because I want my immigrant husband to stay here and also I’m very pro-life. Not to be confused with pro-birth, I believe in helping everyone stay alive whether rich, poor, black, brown or white. I don’t want abortion to be illegal, I want it to be unnecessary (in most cases) because women are safe, have adequate support, adequate medical care, access to birth control, etc.

I also think Jesus would be too extreme for the Democrats.

This. Most church goes do not want churches open until it is safe to do so and until gatherings of over 10 are authorized. Chuches in my area are not open and do not plan to open until safe to do so.

OP, you are hearing about some fringe group in the media.

Money. They need to guilt people into paying more, and that's much easier to do in person.

I asked the question and I live in a pretty conservative state in the midwest. None of the churches in our area are opening or pushing local leaders to loosen restrictions. (Just an FYI. we used to live in DC)

Pesky first amendment. Should we close the newsrooms as well?

A lot of them did, actually (at least by Trump’s definition of closed vs open since most churches never closed, they just stopped using their buildings). San Francisco Chronicle closed their newsroom, and I believe WashPost and NY Times as well.

No one is pushing for it at ours. The bishop has given dispensation so that people can skip communion and mass. They livestream the services. They lock the doors while they do the service so people do not come in. The church is open for individual prayer, but everyone has to maintain social distancing, wear a mask, and keep the numbers below 10.

Sorry. I reread and saw you were asking evangelicals. I am a Catholic. Disregard.
