It could be 5 years or a decade until effective treatment. Oh well. Let’s just sacrifice an entire generation of children to save their grandparents. Disgusting and selfish.

I said nothing of the sort. The reality is that working parents depend on schools to keep their children safe while they are at work. It is likely that will not be an option this fall. Stop making baseless assumptions.

I prefer that we didn’t have to deal with this pandemic at all. But here we are. I’m a realist. I’m being proactive in my decisions. I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

That's silly. Their grandparents want them to go to school. We can protect the grandparents AND have the children in school. It's not one or the other.

I prefer that we didn’t have to deal with this pandemic at all. But here we are. I’m a realist. I’m being proactive in my decisions. I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

No, that's not a choice. So, which do you prefer?

I'm not talking about your individual children. You can make whatever decision you want there, however proactively you want. I'm talking about all of our children. The children, collectively. The children who belong to our society.

Sure you do. In that case what is your plan when schools don’t open in the fall as you insist they will not?

Wait. You don’t believe I work outside the home? Don’t most of us? I think every family will find a different solution. I hope some kind of childcare will be available, especially for first responders and essential employees. I am one of the lucky ones. I can do most of my work at home. My DH is working from home as well. I realize how very fortunate we are. If the schools offer solid distance learning, we will go with that. Otherwise, we will look at the k-12 option. We also have the ability to move back home to our rural hometown if we have to. Not ideal. But none of this is.

It doesn’t help to attack me for being realistic about next year. My feelings are as valid as yours. We don’t have to agree with each other to be kind to each other.
