Yep, and in a couple of years when they've gotten their pay schedule recalibrated, they will start hiring new, younger employees to work in their offices for less than the old employees were making while working in office. Win-win for FB. Loss for all the people who suddenly are in a lower cost of living area without a job and fewer job opportunities. The only employees this shouldn't worry are those who are crucial to FB. |
That’s very fair. I would take a pay decrease in exchange for being able to move anywhere. |
I bet Zuckerberg is happy. Either way he wins. Employees stay local and half decide to WFH at full tech salaries -- he doesn't have to keep expanding Facebook campuses.
The other half move to remote, his salary expenses just went down 75% while keeping the same highly-qualified talent. |
Sounds reasonable, as long as their COL calculation is fair. |
My spouse, who now has employees working from all over, has been planning on doing this for a few weeks. |
I don’t think that’s fair. Your doing the same job. Not all people pay housing expenses . COL doesn’t effect everyone. |
This is totally fair. I relocated as a fed gov worker and had to take the other locality pay. He's not saying people who are remote have to tell him where they are or else. He's saying employees who are approved to be remote can move wherever they want but have to tell the company. |
What? I don't use the local school district but I still pay taxes. Fair is fair. You move to Boise, Idaho expect a salary of $80,000/year instead of $360,000/year. You're also losing all the in-office benefits for the Facebook campuses and I think vested stock options will be lowered as well. Facebook was VERY quick to make this announcement. They aren't playing around. |
Its ok to hire new folks with that policy but not have reductions now. That's crappy. Amazon and other companies have locality cola's. |
I understand some pay reduction, but not to the complete COL difference. This is basically like they’re officially saying you can work remotely, but really their actions aren’t encouraging it. Plus with reduced salary, probably comes reduced stock options, so you’re really at a loss. |
? You don't think it's fair? That's how the real world works. Even the Feds do this. You sound entitled. |
That's fair. I hate Facebook and think its cheap given the money he is making, but it is fair.
So much for stimulating the economy in the heartland. |
Why? You're moving to cheaper places with less expenses. It's the perfect time. |
Their actions are giving the workers a choice. COL adjustments is the norm. |
I'm sure they would still be paid higher than many in the heartland, and now that they live AND work there, they will spend more there. They won't be spending their money in Menlo Park. |
